Cherry Blossoms 2015

Once again the Cherry Blossoms have come and gone. They looked fantastic this year and they drew enormous crowds.

Due to schedules and weather, I was only able to shoot the Cherry Blossoms one time this year. And, unfortunately, the conditions weren't ideal (a little less wind and better clouds would have been preferred).

My basic shooting strategy is pretty simple with the Cherry Blossoms. First, I usually expose for the Jefferson Memorial and/or the Cherry Blossom trees. I'll shoot a few frames like that and then I'll change the exposure for the sky and shoot a few more. Then in photoshop, I'll do some blending, using the differently exposed shots, to compensate for the wide range of light caused by shooting directly into the sun.

Due to their unpredictability, the Cherry Blossoms are one of my favorite things to photograph in DC.  I look forward to more opportunities in 2016.
